Red, White & Royal Blue
The book made me fall in love with them, but the cast of the movie made me fall in love even harder.
Adapting a beloved book is a dangerous business, as a heartbreaking betrayal for readers often happens when they get an adaptation of their favorite novels. But the adaptation of Red, White & Royal Blue did not disappoint at all. In fact, it made me understand why book-to-movie adaptations should exist.
The book was already a fantastic read. The banter, the emails, the enemies-to-lovers tension, the emotional vulnerability, everything a romance reader could possibly ask for.
But then the casting happened.
Taylor Zakhar Perez as Alex! The way he embodies Alex’s energy and effortless charm makes you understand why Henry fell for him.
The casting directors understood the assignment, very well!
Nicholas Galitzine’s screen presence made Henry’s character work so beautifully.
But the real magic was both of them together!
Good casting isn't just about attractive actors, but also the chemistry they bring to the table. Those scenes that we imagine while reading the book! Seeing them bring those scenes to life is extremely exciting.
The plot itself also deserves a standing ovation. The son of the President of the United States and Britain's golden boy, who absolutely cannot stand each other. A heated rivalry that reaches international proportions because of a royal wedding cake incident, followed by them being forced to pretend they are friends for public relations.
What made the romance so special was that it wasn't just about two attractive guys falling for each other, but about how two people from completely different worlds understood each other more than ever.
Red, White & Royal Blue is a wonderful example of what a good book and a well-cast movie can offer.
P.S. If you end up staring at the screen, please know that this is just the charm of good casting. 🤍
