We all are living in a fast-paced world where it's very difficult to take out even a few seconds for ourselves. But in reality, it's the need of the time because we are all losing our uniqueness.
"I am not like those stars,
Nor am I like those flowers,
I am a person born on earth,
Who is unique by birth?”
We all try our best to become the ideal child, parent, friend, partner, or sibling to our loved ones.
But in this process of becoming what others expect of us to be, we lose our connection with our'self,' and sometimes we forget what we are as a person, is not what we really wanted to be.
Just try to recall when was the last time you questioned yourself, “Who Am I?”
It's quite difficult for me to recall this because I never visualized my life as 'My life only'. We see our life as a combination of roles such as a daughter, mother, sibling, etc., which we perform to create a particular image, and often our idea of a successful life is dependent on the fulfillment of all these roles.
Whenever someone praises us for doing something, we feel happy because we get approval. But do we feel the same when we do things that our'self' considers good but society doesn't?
Nowadays we also continuously compare ourselves with others, but in reality, there's no need to be like someone else because every person is unique with their own strengths and weaknesses.
Being aware of our real selves on the stage of life is crucial because when life makes us fall into situations where we need to be our real, unfiltered selves, we all get nervous, scared, and sometimes shocked too. Not because we lack potential or skills, but rather because we have never thought of being ourselves and presenting who we really are, in real life.
Facing these situations is very important, because they give us a break from our performative self and help us to explore our real selves.
Once you know who you are, then you are able to recognize what you really need and want. Your choices must be yours in the first place; they should not be the result of what others expect from you.
Being yourself is the biggest favor you can do to your soul, body, and life :)
