WIDOWED

By Arushi Bhardwaj, BA Prog. (English + Psychology)

Edited by Vasvi Singhal

Stripped of her vermillion

Clad in white

Watching the yellow gold flames aglow

Lifeless like a grey ocean

Standing on the soft brown earth

The pyre burning red hot

While the crowd blackens and blurs around her

Devoid of those rose-tinted bangles now,

And even roses

Can’t seem to fathom how it went away in seconds

A life so vivid .

With every hue promised , and possible

Every pigment within reach

As the color leaches from her life

A voice rings

Oh! how colours matter when you are widowed
